Breaking News: David Bain Released On Bail

BREAKING NEWS: David Bain Released On Bail At High Court In Christchurch

After serving 12 years in prison for the murders of his mother, father, and three siblings David Bain has been released on bail.

Bain's lawyers launched a bail application at the Christchurch High Court today after the Privy Council ruled last week that a gross "miscarriage of justice" had occurred.

Bain was sentenced to 16 years in prison after being found guilty in May 1995 of murdering his mother Margaret, his father Robin, sisters Arawa, 19, and Laniet, 18, and brother Stephen, 14.

Today, Justice John Fogarty ruled that David Bain be released on bail to live at Joe Karam's property in Te Kauwhata, south of Auckland.

Bail conditions include: that Bain be accompanied by another at the property; that he does not have contact with his extended family or witnesses in the case. He does not have to report to police.

Observers report, on hearing the judgment, David Bain turned to the gallery, grinned broadly, and hugged Joe Karam – his most vocal supporter and writer of two books on the Bain case.
