Nigeria: We Don't Recognise Omehia As Governor-Elect, Says AC

MEDIA Consultant to the Action Congress governorship candidate in Rivers State, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, says neither the party nor its governorship flag bearer, Prince Tonye Princewill, is part of an alleged backstage shemes to uphold the ''electoral fraud'' of April 14 in Rivers.
The AC is the party of Nigeria's Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who is locked in a protracted political conflict with the Nigerian leader, Olusegun Obasanjo.
However, one Alvis Amadi, who claimed in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Monday to be representing AC, said they have conceded victory to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He also urged the protesting opposition parties to throw in the towel and embrace the PDP.
In a seeming dramatic turn, the AC speaking through Eze, said the pro-PDP campaign is being organised by a group of ''mentally deracinated and morally debased dissidents whose stock in trade is to fan embers of discord in the country’s political firmament''.
According to the party, ''this group of political harlots and paupers in order to score cheap popularity and political goals addressed a stage managed press parley in Port-Harcourt , where one Mr. Alvis Amadi whom we believe is suffering from political epilepsy after losing out in his desire to be the deputy governor of AC, sadly claimed that he is representing the A C in the staged managed press conference''.
''Alvis Amadi for clarification contested for the post of the deputy governor of AC and lost out to a more matured and civilized politician, Chief William Igwe who is the current deputy governor-elect of the State and instead of accepting defeat honorably decided to play politics of frustration knowing very well he has ceased to be a member of the party since 2006'', the party said.
Continuing, the party added, ''to put the records straight and for purpose of clarification, the AC in Rivers State does not recognize Sir Celestine Omehia as the authentic PDP gubernatorial candidate in the state because of the court ruling which declared Chief Rotimi Amaechi as the winner of the December governorship primaries talk less of commending him for winning an election that did not take place in the state''.
''It is ridiculous, shameful, totally irresponsible, bizarre, and amounts to gross indiscipline for Omehia and his disgruntled followers to frame a false statement congratulating and endorsing Omehia as governor-elect of Rivers State in the name of the AC’s official'', the obviously angry party said.
That was not all. Adding, they said,'' even when this political toddlers and emerging terrorists know that election in Rivers State was characterized by gross irregularities, they are celebrating a victory that will be short-lived in a short time''.
The rest of the AC statement which was wired to our correspondent on Tuesday, reads: ''With the squashing of Omehia’s candidacy by the Supreme Court, we therefore appeal to the INEC to arrange for a fresh election in Rivers State as the other assumed contenders did not meet up with the Constitutional requirements to form government in the State based on the allotted votes to most of the parties in the State was not enough for any of them to have the required spread to form a government in absence of PDP that has no candidate for the election coupled with absence of any genuine election in the last Saturday’s Gubernatorial election in the State.
In another development, we are seizing this opportunity to congratulate Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Standard bearer of the Action Congress for his deserved victory at the Supreme Court on Monday, April 16, 2007.
This triumph no doubt has paved the way for the actualization of an Atiku Presidency by God’s grace.
We commend the Judiciary for rising to the challenge of saving our ailing democracy and proving to the world that it is the last resort for the oppressed in the country.
Atiku to us has paid the price and sacrificed a lot to defend our hard-earned democracy from nose- driving.
We are strongly behind his candidacy because he has through his patriotic fight to salvage our democracy from being scuttled, radiated emulative qualities that are the real hallmarks of undiluted democrats and statesmen.
Therefore, we call on Nigerians and lovers of democracy good governance to troop out en masse and vote in this brave, courageous, emancipator, seasoned politician, political sage, amiable, humble, embodiment of democratic core values etc in the person of Atiku Abubakar into power as the country’s next civilian President on Saturday 19th April 2007''.
