The Wednesday Wire Hosted By Paul Deady 28/03/07

1215 – Marie McNicholas, Press Gallery Chairwoman

The government is facing accusations of kowtowing to Beijing after Chinese journalist, and member of the Press Gallery, Nick Wang was asked to leave the beehive. He was trying to cover a meeting between deputy Prime Minister Michael Cullen and visiting Chinese premier Zeng Peyan. A bit of a he-said, she-said ensued, the government saying it was all a misunderstanding and Wang saying he's the victim of polticial pressure. At 1215 I'll be speaking with Press Gallery Chairwoman Marie McNicholas, who met with the speaker of the house last night, to try and get the story straight.

1235 – AUSA President Lisieli Oliver

1245 – Kasper Beech – "Nuclear abolition the antidote to the clash of civilisations" seminar

Tonight the Auckland University is hosting a seminar called Nuclear abolition: the antidote to the clash of civilisations. Sri Mani Shankar Aiyar, a member of the Indian Parliament will be presenting the seminar and hopefully we'll be having a chat with him at 1245 about why he sees this as the answer, and just what this clash of civilisations is. But he is a busy man, and if he can;t make it, ably filling his shoes will be Kasper Beech, the assistant global co-ordinator for the Parliamentary Network for Nuclear disarmament.

1300 – Reece Jenson – Phoenix Fest organiser

This Saturday in Basque park, the inaugural, or first, Phoenix fest will be taking place. All manner of music and vitamin C-filled drinks will be going down and at one o'clock I'll be speaking with the organiser Reece Johnson.

1330 – Selwyn Manning from scoop.co.nz

And a familiar voice from a different day finds a new home on the Wednesday wire at half past one. Yes scoop's Selwyn Manning has moved in and we shall welcome him warmly. Today we'll be taking a look at the David Hicks case – the Australian terror-suspect who's just plead guilty in what many see as an attempt to flee the hell that is Guantanamo bay.

Aucklanders can tune in at 95 on the FM dial.
