1215 - Douglas Jenkin – Gay Men's Health co-ordinator at the NZ Aids Foundation
Last year saw the second highest number of new HIV cases in NZ since recording began more than 20 years ago. Douglas Jenkin – Gay Men's Health co-ordinator at the NZ Aids Foundation – will join me at 1215 to discuss why we aren't seeming to control the problem, and why it's not just an issue for the gay community.
1230 - Professor Philip Nel – Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe seems to be at boiling point. Huge economic problems and a government all too keen to suppress dissent have in the last few days seen mass protests, culminating in the abduction and beating of the opposition leader. There are rumblings that this could be the beginning of the end for Mugabe. I'll be talking to Professor Philip Nel, a specialist Southern African politics from the Otago University at 1230.
1245 - AUSA Pres Lisieli
1300 - Wendy Hinton – MFAT Deputy Director of the UN Human Rights Commonwealth division
Last year the UN set up the Human Rights Council to replace the Human Rights Commission which was widely seen as being pretty useless. But since then, the same accusations of bias and ineffectiveness have been levelled at the Council. A new Council report on the Crisis in Dafur could turn this around, IF they decide to do anything about it. And by all accounts, that's a big if. I spoke with Wendy Hinton – MFAT Deputy Director of the UN Human Rights Commonwealth division this morning, and asked her if there is any cause for optisim in the Council.
1325 - Rebecca Wright from Buenos Aires Herald
At 1325 I'll be speaking with former Wire host, and now reporter especiale with the Buenos Aires Herald, Rebecca Wright, about the two tours that are currently rocking there way through south America. Bush is there trying to win hearts, and Chavez is following closely behind, reminding people why the hate America. Rebecca was at the Chavez rally a few days ago.
1340 - Benny George of Kill Surf City from Austin Texas for SXSW
