SCOOP LEAD
STORY
Iraq: UK To Withdraw 1600 Troops,
Denmark Pulls Out
Bringing about "enduring change" in the Middle
East is vital to our security, Tony Blair has told MPs. In a
wide-ranging statement, the PM gave an update on the
situation in Iraq and particularly Basra. The next chapter
in that city's history can now be written by Iraqis, he
said, as he announced that the number of British forces
there would be reduced from 7100 to 5500. See... "Defeating
poisonous ideology essential" - PM [1]

Justification for Child Discipline) Amendment Bill, says
Save the Children New Zealand's Executive Director, John
Bowis. "The job now is to follow through by passing the
bill, without watering it down with amendments, through

Fringe Review: Antigone's Death
- One might want to speculate
about what it is in the Zeitgeist that led two groups in
this year's Fringe to independently produce the classic
rebellion story of Antigone. In fact, both are (very
different) versions of Jean Anouilh's play, which draws the
battle between idealism and pragmatism into sharp focus, and
plays on the idea of tragic inevitability so heavily that
one eventually feels the urge to rebel against even that.

The Robson-On-Politics Apology Issue
- In my November 1 newsletter I contrasted
United leader Peter Dunne's strong rhetoric in favour of the
interests of families against his party's vote against
family-friendly policies... I would like to make an
unqualified apology to Hon Peter Dunne that the wording of
the original version of that November 1 newsletter to
members and friends might have been misinterpreted by some
to suggest that Robson-on-politics was in anyway suggesting
that Mr Dunne was not an honourable person. See... Robson-On-Politics
