SCOOP LEAD STORY
Scoop In London: NZ Memorial Heralds ANZAC Spirit In London

Defence Photo Essay - The unveiling of the New Zealand Memorial in London's Hyde Park provided the chance for Kiwi ex-pats to wander along and show their respects to the veterans that had made the trip over and, also to pay their respects to those that have fallen in battle. While Scoop was busy getting the vibe from the ex-pat Kiwi community the official New Zealand Defence Force photographer Rachel Main had what many English Paparazzi can only dream about – the chance to snap the entire Royal family at the unveiling of the New Zealand Memorial. Health News: PHARMAC Under-Provides Needy By $19.4 Million

    Scoop
Image - PHARMAC's announcement this week of a $19.4 million budget under spend for 2006 has elicited cries of disbelief and anger from MPs, doctors and breast cancer groups alike. The Breast Cancer Aotearoa Coalition (BCAC) was outraged by the result which PHARMAC's Acting Chief Executive Matthew Brougham described as 'excellent'. See... INTERNATIONAL NEWS:
UN News: U.S. Vetos Security Council Fact-Finding Mission To Gaza

    - Exercising its veto in the Security Council today, the United States blocked a draft resolution that won the endorsement of 10 other members and would have called for a United Nations fact-finding mission in response to a recent Israeli operation in Gaza resulting in at least 18 civilian deaths. Sponsored by Qatar, the draft would have condemned Israeli military operations in Gaza as well as Palestinian rocket fire into Israel, while calling for an immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip and a cessation of violence by both parties. - Scoop's Yasmine Ryan reports that a Molotov cocktail attack on bus 32 in Marseille’s 13th arrondissement on 28 October marked the anniversary of the beginning of the 2005 riot, during which marginalised youths vented their anger at the French state. The attack left a 26 year old student, Mama Galledou, in a critical condition, with burns on 62% of her skin. It occurred in the context of similar attacks on public transport and conflict with police in other parts of France. See... Les Yeux on France: Why Marseille is Different [1]
