Politics: Will Prebble's 'Don's Gone' Call Leave Him With An Eggy Face?
According to the former leader of the ACT party, Richard Prebble, National Leader Dr Don Brash's problems are even greater than the media have been reporting. Writing in his latest political newsletter Prebble explains that before the Independent story appeared Dr Brash had told senior MPs that he wished to resign for personal reasons. He had told his family of his decision, hence the need to return home to explain he had been pursuaded to stay on. See... The Letter – Monday, 30 October 2006 [1]

Politics: Conference Remembered For Debt And A Symbolic
Whip Around
The Labour Party has concluded its annual
party conference tabling on the last day details of massive
debt and the need for the party-loyal to dig deep into their
pockets. Labour needs $600,000 to balance its books. Add to
this the $800,000. campaign spending bill, courtesy of the
AG, and Labour needs to overcome a massive $1.4 million
hurdle. It would be fare to say, a snap election is not on
the horizon! See... PM's
Address to NZ Labour Party Annual Conference [1]

Housing:
Is KiwiSaver Mortgage Diversion Workable?
Officials
repeatedly told the Labour Government not to introduce
mortgage diversion into KiwiSaver and, after initially
agreeing, Cabinet did a U-turn, says National Party
Associate Finance spokesman Craig Foss. He has obtained
papers under the Official Information Act which show that in
February, Cabinet agreed with officials' advice that
mortgage diversion was unworkable and too complex. See... Govt
ignored officials' advice on KiwiSaver [1]
