Solomon Islands Issues Five Point Plan To Pacific Islands Forum Leaders

The Solomon Islands has tabled a five point plan for Pacific leaders to consider at the Pacific Islands Forum in Nadi, Fiji. The plan has emerged as Solomon Islands' PM Manasseh Sogavare's bargaining paper for a resolution to its clash with Australia.

Details of the Five Point Plan below:

Country Initiative on RAMSI by Solomon Islands at the 37th PIF

The meeting acknowledged the briefing by Solomon Islands that it would be presenting a Country Initiative Paper on RAMSI to the Forum leaders meeting.

The Paper will include five proposals on RAMSI. These are:

  • Restoration of the regional charter of RAMSI
  • Establishment of a Forum Ministerial team to oversee RAMSI operations
  • An Independent Review of RAMSI
  • Review of RAMSI
  • Clear demarcation between RAMSI and Australia.
  • The meeting further agreed to elevate the status of the proposed Forum representation in Solomon Islands to the level of a Special Envoy.
