Business: Godfrey Hirst Announces Plan For Hoovering Up Feltex

- The National Distribution Union and The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union are concerned about the possible outcome for Feltex workers after Godfrey Hirst announced its offer for the company today. The deal would mean the loss of 135 jobs through the total closure of the carpet maker’s Kakariki factory (near Fielding) and a staff reduction of 40% in its Christchurch plant. See... Technology: Kiwi-Made Robot Defeats All Opponents

- A seed-planting robot designed to beautify ‘Gondwanan’ highways secured first place for the University of Auckland at the Warman Design and Build Competition in Sydney, held to award mechanical engineering excellence. The Auckland team beat 15 universities from around Australasia to claim the coveted prize. Satire: Statistics NZ Records The Benefits Of Media Double-Counting

- Lyndon Hood writes that data released by Statistics New Zealand has revealed a more than 582 percent rise in satire for the year from July 2005 to June 2006. Two sets of data on satire prevalence are kept, for the year to June and for the calendar year. Text & Audio: Govt Plans Changes To Frequency Allocation Plans

- The Government has announced it will provide for up to four new FM radio stations in each region of NZ, and strengthen the role of local broadcasters. It plans to auction commercial frequencies with conditions yet to be finalised. Communications Minister, David Cunliffe, talks to KiwiFM's Wammo about small stations on low power frequencies or stations that have out grown their position or license moving to either the new commercial or non-commercial frequencies.
