Tanveer Jafri: God Blesses The Peacemakers

God Blesses The Peacemakers

By Tanveer Jafri

On the base of alleged kidnapping of its two soldiers, the war started, from last 12 July by Israel against Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon came to an end with the declaration of ceasefire by the United Nations on the last August 14 (Monday). Israel Vs Hezbollah war that brought the death of about one thousand persons ended without any result. But both the parties are claiming of their respective victory on the basis of their own arguments. Although Israel has started the war on South Lebanon with the set aim of the release of its two soldiers yet just with the start of war, it started saying that it would completely disarm Hezbollah & the war would end with the end of Hezbollah. The war which lasted for five weeks, it has been stopped on August 14 with the implementation of United Nations Organisation's resolution. But at present there is neither any clue of neither those two kidnapped Israeli soldiers for which Hezbollah was accused of nor Hezbollah has been disarmed. Obviously, the Israeli army couldn't get success in either of these two aims, so Hezbollah is counting it as its success. Now after the end of the war, the Hezbollah group is in jovial mood in the Arab world.

On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Ahud Almart has been accepting a diplomatic mistake in this war. But now Israel is satisfied with the statement that it had done a great loss to Hezbollah in this war. Regarding the claim of being victorious by Hezbollah, American President George W. Bush, a guardian of Israel, has said that claims by the Hezbollah are false & baseless & gave an argument that it is Hezbollah that suffered most in this war. President Bush says that when Lebanese armies & international army are being deployed in the areas occupied by Hezbollah in South Lebanon, how it can be called the victory of Hezbollah. It is known that in the resolution of ceasefire, United Nations Security Council has decided to deploy peace keeping soldiers for a long time peace in the areas that had remained disturbed in South Lebanon. According to the ceasefire agreement, the peace keeping soldiers will reach South Lebanon within 10 to 15 days of the implementation of ceasefire agreement (August 14). According to the plan of United Nations, the number of these peace keeping soldiers will be 3500 in the beginning & that will be increased to 15000.

In the Arab world, Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrulla has come out as a very popular leader. He claims that they have won an historical armed battle against Israel. Syrian President Bashar Al Asad has also called it a glorious war. Asad says that the ceasefire in South Lebanon & victory of Hezbollah has given rise to a new Middle East. Iranian President Ahmedi Nejad, who is facing American accusation of helping Hezbollah, accepts that Hezbollah made the American plan of controlling Middle East, unsuccessful. Now Arab world believes that the conflict started by Israel was a part of a wide undeclared plot & it was failed. Although 1000 persons have lost their lives in this war & lakhs of people have become homeless yet it is being felt in the Arab world that now after this conflict, there is no need to be afraid of Israel.

Hezbollah & Israel may be claiming their respective victories in this conflict but neutral analysts are saying that it was a war with no results & it ended in a draw. If the two aims of the Israeli army, the release of its two soldiers & disarming of Hezbollah, are taken into consideration, this war can't be called a decisive. But the ultra modern arms & ammunition & bombs that didn't miss their target that were used by Israel, in this war, the devastation that took place in Lebanese areas of Beirut, Qana & Tyre by the Israeli bombardment were seen by the world as a laboratory for the armaments. World accepts that wars between two armies may have different reasons but the suppliers of arms for these armies are limited in number & they watch the demonstration of their arms & ammunition. The arms that don't miss the aims that bring havoc & destruction & that make the maximum loss of life & property are counted useful, successful & valuable. In this Israel-Hezbollah conflict, America on the one side witnessed the use of its modern arms by Israel on Lebanese innocents & on the other side it accused Iran & Syria for helping Hezbollah with arms & for fuelling terrorism. Whereas when Israeli army, with the help of American arms, massacre thousands of innocent people, then Is it 'license' for killing? And if we keep into the age of cold war then the above incidences seen in Afghanistan, Soviet Union & American reference, it is observed that in Afghanistan NaJeeb government is ruling with the support of Soviet Union & Talibanis are trying to uproot it. Here America is assisting Talibani terrorists with weapons just for it doesn't want a Soviet supported government in Afghanistan. Will this arms supply to Talibans be simply taken as an American policy matter or a matter of supply of arms by America to a terrorist organization? But every step taken by America is 'proper & ordinary' whereas the help to Hezbollah by Iran & Syria is improper & unusual & at the same time a crime also.

In this arms war, there was a strong blend of spiritualism also. Hasan Nasrullah & his supporters were claiming that God is with them & this war is according to the directions & orders of the God. At the same time, many people in Israeli army also encouraged them that they are fighting according to the order of the God. A Christian, Paster John Haggy, while addressing a crowd of 3500 in America, said that the war is between the God & the Satan in which Israel is performing a job assigned by the God. It means both the parties are claiming to be true representative of God & calling the other 'A Satan.' Obviously, the claims of both the parties compel the third one to think that whom god is helping. Is he with the cruel or with the bearer of the cruelty? With the powerful or with the weak. With the truth or with the lie.

I am not so farsighted to reach the depth of the answers of the above questions that God remained with which party. But my belief in God tells me that God can't be with the tyrants, cruels & who help those who kill innocents & unarmed people. Ordinary people like me, who are peace loving having firm belief that where there is peace, love, brotherhood & equality, God is only there. Those, who try to walk on the path of peace, brotherhood & Godliness, always win. The same measuring rod in the present conflict in Middle East will tell who won the war & who lost it.
