Detective Inspector Harry Quinn answers the media's questions regarding a mysterious unidentified handless body found in Owhiro Bay, Wellington on the weekend

"Somewhere in this city is a murder scene that will be filled with blood," was the hypothesis Detective Inspector Harry Quinn, Wellington Crime Services Manager put to media at a press conference today in relation to what Inspector Quinn called a "brutal and bizarre homicide."

The as yet unidentified man found at Owhiro Bay on Wellington's south coast yesterday was subjected to a severe beating about the head, had his neck partially severed and his hands cut off.

Detective Inspector Quinn said near the end of the press conference that it was possible photos of the murdered man may be released to the media - he stressed however that this would be a last resort aimed at aiding the man's identification.

According to a NZ Police press release the victim was a male European, possibly aged over 60 years, clean shaven, with grey wispy hair and a bald to heavily receding hairline. He was of light to medium build, weighed 84 kilos, was 179cm tall and had no distinguishing marks such as tattoos or identification on his body.

As well as disucssing the Police's progress on the case to date photographs showing items of clothing similar to those found on the dead man were relased this afternoon.
