secured the New Zealand embassy, protecting the New Zealand
ambassador and other personnel. A further 124 soldiers
remain pre-positioned in Townsville, Australia, prior to
deploying to Timor Leste on Wednesday. In Dili, Lieutenant
Commander Barbara Cassin said there were large groups of
people in the streets of Dili, mainly groups of families.

Pharmaceutical companies are abandoning research and development in New Zealand due to a lack of government support, potentially costing the country $100 million in lost investment, according to a report released today. The report also says that New Zealand lags behind other developed countries in the amount of biomedical research being performed and should be attracting more than five times the current amount invested in new medicine research and development. Police: Snazzy New Uniform Unveiled For Temporary
Sworn Police -
A new uniform for temporary sworn staff has been approved and will be delivered to Police districts within the next month said General manager Human Resources Wayne Annan. The uniform comprises a navy blue polo shirt and zip-up jacket with the police logo, which will be worn with the standard issue police trousers and belt. Samoa¹s principal censor has banned the screening of the
film The Da Vinci Code from cinemas and all local television
stations. The ban also applies to the hiring of videos and

Finance Minister Michael Cullen today welcomed receipt of the $800 million special dividend from Meridian Energy. Meridian Energy chairman Wayne Boyd handed the cheque to Dr Cullen at a special ceremony in the Beehive. Results: Population Keeps on Growing
- The
number of people counted in New Zealand on census night was
4,116,900, Statistics New Zealand said today. This is the
first information available from the 2006 Census of
Population and Dwellings, held on 7 March 2006. This
provisional count is based on information from census
collectors about the numbers of forms delivered and
collected. Statistics NZ will release final population and
dwelling counts, which are based on information processed
