Torrential Rain Fails to Deter Trolley Bus Activists

Green MP Sue Kedgley and a man wearing the kind of mask that may become necessary on Courtney Place should the trolley busses not get Land Transport NZ funding

Green Party Transport Spokesperson Sue Kedgley and a team of Green Party supporters braved torrential rain at the at the Courtenay Place bus stops this morning.

Ms Kedgley was busily organising a petition challenging Land Transport New Zealand's funding of the trolley buses.

"LTNZ will fund trolley buses only if they are treated as though they are diesel buses. That is quite absurd. Through its actions, LTNZ has become the main roadblock to the refurbishment of the capital's ageing trolley bus system," Ms. Kedgley says.

"If LTNZ is allowed to persist, the regional council will have little option but to roll over the current contract and then go cap in hand to the people of Wellington to make up the shortfall," Ms Kedgley says.

An bedraggled Scoop reporter who had just ridden in on an exceptionally crowded bus stopped to take some pictures utilising modern cellphone technology.
