Stateside With Rosalea: Crikey Dick!

Stateside With Rosalea Barker

Crikey Dick!

::Baby with no limbs born speaking in tongues!!::

What a week it's been. First, ABC's Primetime sets off alarums with its preview of National Geographic's special about the Gospel of Judas. I mean to say! Judas is now a saint and Jesus a shyster? Give me a break.

Obviously, this new gospel is just a cunning Red Sea herring planted by Al Qaeda’s Coptic Brigade in anticipation of its causing the Evangelical Right in the US to stop supporting Israel.

For a foreshadowing of the controversy this not-so-gospel gospel will cause, check out this December 2005 article in the Christian Century: http://www.christiancentury.org/article.lasso?id=1594

::Mammaries issue retraction and apologise for getting the story wrong!!::

Then we had to suffer through hours of TV commentators anguishing over whether Katie Couric has the right stuff to be a network news anchor, culminating in Chris Matthews saying on Sunday's Hardball that it's not just about seeing if Americans can stomach a female news anchor, it's a test drive for having a woman president!

Currently fronting NBC's Today show, Couric will be moving to the CBS Evening News to replace the disgraced Dan Rather, who resigned after getting a story wrong during the 2004 presidential elections. Like Rather, she will be both the anchor and the managing editor. (The seat has been kept warm by Bob Schieffer in the meantime.)

Alas, my first taste of Katie Couric was her reporting of Princess Diana's funeral for NBC Asia, back in the day when that satellite feed was carried live on Telecom's First Media cable TV channel. Since I always thought it perfectly obvious that Diana was barking mad, any reporter who spent that much energy on the subject got tarred with the same feather boa.

For Couric to get any cred in my eyes she will have to do an expose of Diana's plans to run for President in 2008 after her boyfriend's billions and her brother's PR skills had brought about a Constitutional amendment to make her eligible. Now there's a whodunnit for ya!
