Scoop Review: David Robie's Book Is A Must Read For All
Pacific Peoples
- If you have not yet bought or read Eyes Of Fire, you really owe it to yourself to do so. The memorial edition of David Robie’s Eyes of Fire: The Last Voyage of the Rainbow Warrior is an in depth look at the last voyage of the Rainbow Warrior. Originally published in 1986, it brings the era to life in a way that a more retrospective book could not do. Robie himself lived that last journey through the Pacific on board the Warrior. See... promoting better understanding between different cultures
calls for a “robust and frank” dialogue among journalists

Danish media which have sparked outrage in some parts of the

Hundreds arrested as persecution of trade unionists

- Iranian authorities have again
targeted trade unionists at Sherkate Vahed, Teheran's bus
company, in the latest wave of brutal repression. The ICFTU,

the new arrests of several hundred trade unionists and their

Bush Delivers State Of The Nation Warning To Foreign
Opposition
- "Abroad, our nation is committed to
an historic, long-term goal -- we seek the end of tyranny in
our world. Some dismiss that goal as misguided idealism…
Dictatorships shelter terrorists, and feed resentment and
radicalism, and seek weapons of mass destruction.
Democracies replace resentment with hope, respect the rights
of their citizens and their neighbors, and join the fight
against terror. Every step toward freedom in the world makes
our country safer -- so we will act boldly in freedom's
cause." See... Video:

New Book: More Leaked Memos, Freakier Bush
- The Guardian is reporting that Bush told Blair "that the US was so worried about the failure to find hard evidence against Saddam that it thought of 'flying U2 reconnaissance aircraft planes with fighter cover over Iraq, painted in UN colours'. Mr Bush added: 'If Saddam fired on them, he would be in breach [of UN resolutions]'." See... Phony UN Airplanes to Provoke War [1]

Che
Tibby Gets Distracted from Treaty Issues
- Have pretty much just gotten home from a very interesting 'debate' at Te Papa. The topic was the Treaty of Waitangi, and as I'm sure you'll be aware it's something I think we should all take a positive interest in... Actually, walking home barely topped the experience of listening to Geoffrey Palmer and Joe Williams Talk about their respective vision of our social futures. I should mention that it wasn't actually a debate as such, but more of an exposition of ideas. So why did the walk home top the debate? See... Public Address 03/02/06 - Conquering dictatorship [1]

History: Govt attaches Memorial To WWI Hero In Parliament Buildings
- Sixteen years is quite a long time to wait to attach a memorial plaque to a wall, but that’s how long Cabinet Minister Jim Anderton had to wait to see a memorial to Colonel William Malone, hero of Chunuk Bair go up in Parliament’s main foyer. “When I first encountered this story,” Anderton said, “I was astonished that Malone, although mentioned in despatches, was not decorated for this feat.
