New Zealand has successfully won the bid to host the 2011 Rugby World Cup. New Zealand's chance came when South Africa, tipped to be a strong second runner to Japan, was voted out in the first round.
New Zealand came from behind as the outside
chance, but managed to sway International Rugby Board heads
with a heavyweight lobby team including: Prime Minister
Helen Clark, All Black great Colin (Pine Tree) Meads, All
Black captain Tana Umaga.
The announcement was made in
Dublin at 5.40am NZT.
