Governor-General's Knight In Shining Armour Puts Brownlee To The Sword

“Gerry Brownlee, with all the finesse of a rather large bull in a China shop, has managed to not only offend the office of the Governor General, but to highlight his complete ignorance of constitutional matters in the process,” says Rt Hon Winston Peters. “It is the height of rudeness and cowardice to personally attack the Governor-General, who is constrained by constitutional convention and therefore unable to defend herself. “But to do so based on such a nonsensical premise – that she had acted inappropriately during the government formation period – simply highlights Mr Brownlee’s ignorance. CTU Tells Business NZ To Get Real Over Pay Increases
- The Council of Trade Unions is challenging Business New Zealand to get real about wages, CTU President Ross Wilson said today. "Businesses all acknowledge that their top challenge right now is skills shortages, yet they lament any changes to the attractiveness of working conditions through wage increases. There have been skills shortages for 3 years," said Ross Wilson. "Only the 2004 amendments to the Employment Relations Act and strong union campaigning in 2005 have made the difference in moving the New Zealand labour market out of the low wage trough we are in."
