Prime Minister Helen Clark said today [1] that she would soon decide whether Mangere MP Phillip Field will be apart of a new Cabinet if an inquiry led by QC Noel Ingram is not concluded by tomorrow (Tuesday). The matter would go before the Labour Caucus should Mr Field seek re-election to Cabinet. - At 3.50pm today the Green Co-Leaders Rod Donald and Jeanette Fitzsimons held a brief photo call with Prime Minister Helen Clark and Deputy Labour Party Leader Michael Cullen prior to the beginning of coalition and government formation talks. At her earlier Press Conference Prime Minister Helen Clark said nothing should be read into the order in which she would be meeting with the five minor party leadership teams. Broadcaster Julian Wilcox has tendered an apology to Maori Television and to the public for his actions surrounding a media story that brought disrepute to Maori Television. The Muriwai Lifeguard Service tower was today rescued off the rugged Auckland west coast beach by New Zealand Crane Hire after surf and wind had eroded the dunes it was built on. The 220 tonne Grove crane, the biggest in New Zealand Crane Hire’s fleet, swung the tower around over the dunes into the carpark of the Muriwai Lifeguard Service. See... Scoop News: Labour Holds 50 Seats National Loses One Down To 48 The Chief Electoral Officer [1] has released the final election results that confirm Labour is the party with the most votes and takes 50 MPs into the new Parliament. National loses one MP achieving a final election result with 48 MPs in its caucus. Parliament’s overhang reduces to 121 MPs in total. All electorate candidates leading on election night have been confirmed as winning their seats. Turnout was 80.92% (2002 - 76.98%). Foreign Affairs Combs Bali Hospitals After Bomb Blast

- At least three bombs exploded in Bali at 8.00pm local time on 1 October, at Kuta and Jimbaran. Several deaths and injuries have occurred. At this stage there are no reports of New Zealand casualties. New Zealand Embassy staff from Jakarta, now in Bali, are continuing to check hospitals for casualties. My prediction: - given the tightness of the outcome - this was a good election for National to lose. Helen Clark may be a lot of things but she's no fool. She will do whatever it takes to cobble a third term and secure her place in Labour history (or should that be Labour herstory?). I think we will have an election within eighteen months and, providing National doesn't do anything foolish, Don Brash will be crowned Prime Minister. Scoop News: Taito Phillip Field Issues Denial Over Allegations

- Investigations into alleged impropriety by Labour Cabinet Minister, Taito Phillip Field, have been widened after fresh allegations surfaced. The claims have seen Mr Field issue a statement denying wrong. An Onehunga family has come forward claiming Field purchased their home for $259,000. Phillip Field is reported as having later sold the home for $395,000. 28,000 Families Get Extra Help From Monday

- Around 28,000 families will be eligible for extra help with child care costs from Monday, Social Development and Employment Minister Steve Maharey said today. Community Work For Brothel Owner Who Hired 14 Year Old Girl Slammed By Advocacy Group -

Yesterday’s decision by the Wellington District Court, to hand out a meagre 300 hours community work to a woman who sold two girls aged 14 and 17 years of age for sex, was extremely disappointing says one group working to end the sexual exploitation of children and youth. Judge John Walker sentenced the former Wellington brothel owner to community work on two charges of entering into an arrangement for commercial sex and two of facilitating commercial sex with two girls under 18.
