C.D. Sludge: Dr Don Brash - 'Tool Of The Business Roundtable'

Audio & Transcript: John Key Defends Don Brash [1]
Brash Speech: "We Are All New Zealanders" [2]

C.D. Sludge Writes: [3] "The entire basis of Dr Brash's Orewa oratory rests on his credibility as a plain-speaking politician talking from his heart about issues which tap directly into the political milieu of "mainstream" New Zealand voters. However what if - as Ruth Laugesen seemingly proves conclusively - these are not actually his ideas at all, but rather a set of ideas pushed upon him by self-serving business interests represented by highly paid spin-doctors, many of whom actually owe their allegiances to a party other than the National Party…." Brash Releases Treaty Principles Policy

    - National Party Leader Don Brash has today signaled changes to speed up the Treaty process and treat all New Zealanders on the basis of their need not their race. "There can be no basis for government funding based on race, no basis for separate Maori electorates, no basis for introducing Maori wards in local authority elections, and no obligation for local government to consult Maori in preference to other New Zealanders. I meant every word of the Orewa speech last year, and I stand by those conclusions today. We are one country with many peoples, not two peoples living in some form of partnership," Don Brash said. Weather-Bomb Katrina Looms Over Mainland USA

    - Hurricane Katrina is poised to become the third ever Category 5 hurricane to make landfall in the mainland United States. The Super-Hurricane is remarkably young having formed off the Florida coast just last Tuesday. In the past few days Katrina has intensified spectacularly fast from the Category 3 intensity with which it struck South Florida to the extremely rare Category 5 intensity, the highest level of intensity on the Simpson-Saffir scale packing sustained winds of 170mph and gusts in excess of 250kmh. The super-hurricane has also made a bee-line for the low-lying city of New Orleans in the Mississippi Delta. This is possibly the worst place it could possibly strike on the US Gulf Coast. See... No Right Turn BMR: Counting The Cost Of Mismanagement

    - Last year, the High Court entered a landmark judgement against the Department of Corrections, ruling that the department's Behaviour Management Regime (BMR) was unlawful and inhumane, and awarding compensation to five current and former inmates for their treatment. Since then, a further fourty inmates have filed claims - and the government has passed draconian legislation aimed at letting Corrections off the hook for its failure to abide by fundamental human rights standards. Suzan Mazur: The Mystery Of The Royal Treasure of Dorak

    - He's held out longer than Woodward, Bernstein & Deep Throat. But it's time British archaeologist James "Jimmie" Mellaart, now age 80 or so and in his golden years, finally fesses up to the whereabouts of the priceless "Royal Treasure of Dorak," which he first tantalized the world with by publishing drawings of the artifacts in the November 28, 1959 issue of The Illustrated London News, saying the pieces were from a clandestine dig in northwest Turkey. And after which the press clamored to see it. However, fabulous Dorak had by then apparently vanished, along with its owner, Anna Papastrati. See...
