R.I.P. David Lange: A Great New Zealand Statesman
Dies
Former Prime Minister David Lange died at
10pm Saturday night at Middlemore Hospital in south
Auckland. His brother Peter and son Roy were at his side.
David Lange had been in hospital receiving dialysis after
his kidneys had failed due to complications arising from
diabetes. He lapsed into unconsciousness on Friday. On
Saturday, his wife Margaret Pope had been at his side until
6pm. She quickly returned to Middlemore Hospital after
hearing the news at 10pm. See... David

Mallard Announces Extra Teachers Plan [1] - The allocation of additional staff for schools in 2006 is being directed at reducing secondary class sizes Education Minister Trevor Mallard announced today. “The 2005 Budget included an additional investment of $91.3 million over four years to provide an extra 421 teachers to secondary and area schools,” Trevor Mallard said. A rare set of Day Gecko twins and a third baby Gecko are the latest native births at Wellington Zoo. Currently home to three yellow and two green adult Day Geckos, the births are an addition to an endemic species that is endangered in New Zealand because of deforestation and predation by cats and stoats. ACT Party Advertising Illegal -
The Chief Electoral Officer
has reviewed advertising being conducted by the ACT Party
after a complaint by the National Party that the advertising
breaches the Electoral Act 1993. The ACT Party has been
advised that the advertising is an illegal practice in terms
of section 221. The Chief Electoral Officer considers
therefore that an offence has been committed which on
conviction by the Courts may result in a fine of up to
