Westpac's analysis of Labour's proposal to abolish interest on student loans appears to be self-interested, Education Minister Trevor Mallard said today. "It has become evident to me that Westpac has got its own very selfish reasons for releasing this analysis – it will lose money. Westpac has a 'Graduate Package' where they buy out up to $10,000 of a graduates student loan at a discounted interest rate as a loss leader in order to try and capture very valuable mortgage business," Trevor Mallard said. Beeb Journalists Peeved Over RNZ Scabbing News Feed

- BBC journalists today condemned the use of their broadcasts by Radio New Zealand during industrial action. Radio New Zealand staff, members of the Public Service Association (PSA) and the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union, walked off the job this morning to protest an unacceptable pay offer. The strike forced Radio New Zealand to abandon its flagship Morning Report news programme and it instead broadcast live feed from the BBC. ACC Claims Lag Addressed

- ACC claimants are benefitting from a new law that makes it simpler for patients to get cover when injured during medical treatment, ACC Minister Ruth Dyson said today. Legislation replacing ACC medical misadventure rules with a new category of treatment injury came into force on 1 July 2005.
