I reckon the opposite.

Take a look at how Winston and Brash together would look to Winston.

Mr. Peters has, oh, about ten millennia's experience in all political dark arts of arm-twisting and getting his way. We are talking about the man who perfected the grandstanding sulk. He has a dominant personality and knows every trick in the book when it comes to pushing through his opinion, verbally or by a series of carefully stage-mannered actions. As much as he berates the media he knows how to play it to his tune, note-perfect.

Brash on the other hand is not adept at any of these things, and has Murray 'I strategised National to 21% last election' McCully to guide him.

Any coalition between these figures would undoubtedly be in Peters' favour, any battle of personalities or interests would go Winston's way.

With Helen Clark this would not be even remotely possible, and I can't imagine anyone of Winston's (pin)stripes wishing to spend three years around a cabinet table with Maharey and Marion Hobbs. Just try to picture it.

No, he'll go with National and it will be a very entertaining shit-show. Although whether the National Party would really recover from a second such side-show, I'm really not sure.
