PM Sets Election Date Under Watchful Eye Of Michael Joseph Savage
Today the Prime Minister announced the 2005 General Election will be held on 17 September 2005. The venue chosen for the announcement of the election date was the Labour Party caucus room.
The Prime Minister and her Deputy, Michael Cullen took questions from the assembled media whilst past Labour Party Prime Minister's Michael Joseph Savage, Bill Rowling and David Lange stared down from the walls. The Prime Minister will be attempting to become the first Labour Prime Minister to win three elections in a row since that feat was achieved by the Michael Joseph Savage - Peter Fraser Labour governments, more than 50 years ago.
Michael Savage was the Labour Party’s Prime Minister from 6 Dec 1935 to 27 March 1940, Peter Fraser was the Labour Party’s Prime Minister from 1 April 1940 to 13 December 1949.
