Scoop Report: Govt Spells Out "NO" To Anti-Tour-Law

Scoop
Image: Foreign Minister Phil Goff today ruled out any law
change to stop a tour of Zimbabwe. Kevin List reports that in a joint press conference today both Foreign Affairs Minister Phil Goff and Associate Foreign Affairs Minister Jim Anderton explained that there was little the Government could do to stop the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe by the Black Caps. Mr Goff was adamant that the Government wouldn’t be rushing through any legislation that would have short-circuited the normal legislative course of referral to a select committee and submissions from the public. Alongside the road runs an electronic fence built by Israel to prevent infiltrations by Palestinian militants. On the other side Israeli military forces patrol it constantly. The car's headlights turn off. A few meters away shadows lurk among the trees. Figures leave the car and join them. They blend together for some 10 minutes. Then all are off their separate ways. Let The U.S. Supreme Court Battle Begin

    - What nobody seems to be noticing, though, is what may well be the real agenda of George W. Bush and those around him - neo-fascism. For this agenda, Alberto Gonzales is the perfect man. Although he testified that "I don't recall today whether I was in agreement with the analysis" on the meeting that led to the infamous 2002 torture memo that said "injury such as death, organ failure, or serious impairment of body functions - [are necessary] in order to constitute torture," he actually chaired the committee that drafted it.
