Scoop Report: Govt Spells Out "NO" To Anti-Tour-Law
Kevin List reports
that in a joint press conference today both Foreign Affairs
Minister Phil Goff and Associate Foreign Affairs Minister
Jim Anderton explained that there was little the Government
could do to stop the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe by the Black
Caps. Mr Goff was adamant that the Government wouldn’t be
rushing through any legislation that would have
short-circuited the normal legislative course of referral to
a select committee and submissions from the public. See...

Peters Waves Bye Bye To Jim Peron
- New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters is pleased that the Immigration Service has finally come to its senses in its decision to revoke the visa of paedophilic apologist Jim Peron. The decision follows a finding from the Chief Censor in May that the magazine “Unbound” published by Mr Peron, be classified as “objectionable” because it promotes the exploitation of children and young people for sexual purposes. After
- As the United Nations prepares to mark the 10th anniversary of the fall of Srebrenica during the Balkan wars, a senior official has reaffirmed the UN's commitment to help heal the wounds in the town that was the site of a massacre of Muslim men and boys by Bosnian Serb forces after they took over the town designated by the Security Council as a "safe area." Yasser Abu Moailek's Letter From Gaza
- A car pulls off the road near an olive grove on the eastern border of the Gaza Strip. Alongside the road runs an electronic fence built by Israel to prevent infiltrations by Palestinian militants. On the other side Israeli military forces patrol it constantly. The car's headlights turn off. A few meters away shadows lurk among the trees. Figures leave the car and join them. They blend together for some 10 minutes. Then all are off their separate ways. The deal has been done. See... A Gaza Gun Deal Goes Down [1]

SCOOP COLUMNS

Let The U.S. Supreme Court Battle Begin
- What nobody seems to be noticing, though, is what may well be the real agenda of George W. Bush and those around him - neo-fascism. For this agenda, Alberto Gonzales is the perfect man. Although he testified that "I don't recall today whether I was in agreement with the analysis" on the meeting that led to the infamous 2002 torture memo that said "injury such as death, organ failure, or serious impairment of body functions - [are necessary] in order to constitute torture," he actually chaired the committee that drafted it. Zimbabwe Slurs
- The Maori Party today has
responded to allegations from Peter Dunne concerning the
Maori Government of Aotearoa; and the suggestion that the
Maori Party is somehow unconcerned about the broader issue
of human rights here and in places such as Zimbabwe. “We are
all aware that tangata whenua were to the forefront in
opposing the apartheid regime in South Africa. Indeed many
tangata whenua continue to be actively involved in
advocating human rights around the world because the Treaty
itself is a document of human rights” said Dr Sharples,
