A Week of It: Discusses Rural Concerns

    - This week the Maori Party proved its claim to be a centrist party when it lined up with the ACT and National parties in opposition to the Government's proposal to have a five-metre walking accessway along significant waterways. "We totally oppose the notion that the public should be allowed to wander onto a private property to get to the river. No-one that lives in an urban setting would allow that - why should we operate a different standard for our rural communities?" explained Maori Party Co-leader Tariana Turia in a press statement. "Climate change poses a direct threat to New Zealand's environment, way of life and economy. Unless there is a concerted global effort to limit emissions and the extent of climate change, New Zealand, and its agricultural base, will be hit hard," says Convenor of the Ministerial Group on Climate Change Pete Hodgson. Latest Poll Shows Centre-Right Parties Have Numbers To Govern

    - TV3 News’ TNS Poll has shown that if an election was held today, based on the poll’s findings, Labour and centre-left parties would not have the numbers to govern alone. The Poll shows New Zealand First on 11 percent with 14 MPs in Parliament. That would place its leader Winston Peters in the box seat to influence policy from either inside or outside a coalition. Centre-right parties would also have the numbers to govern. TNS used to be called NFO/CM Research, and is still New Zealand’s leading consultative market research and intelligence company. It obviously isn’t a priority for them,” Mr. Peters said. See... Peters Calls For Government Action [1]
