LEAD STORY:
Editorial: Rule Of Law Loses As Swain Buckles Under Peters Pressure

Immigration Minister Paul Swain [1] ...This doesn't mean that I'm necessarily defending the two men now subject to deportation. But I can't help but feel that in the rush to avoid bad publicity, a few things have been missed. Like, say, any investigation of the facts. Is there any evidence that either of these men were actually complicit in crimes against humanity? Or do we just not care about such things anymore? See... No Right Turn: The Winston Veto [2] MORE:

    The Polluter Pays

    - Today the Government announces further implementation details of the carbon tax; a policy first announced in 2002. Climate change is a direct threat to the New Zealand environment, way of life and economy. This government takes that threat seriously. That is why New Zealand, along with 149 other countries, is acting responsibly and has made a start on limiting the extent and impact of this global problem through ratifying the Kyoto Protocol. Amnesty Issues Report On Europe/Central Asia Abuses

    - The Russian Federation, Belarus, Turkmenistan and Turkey are among the countries in Europe and Central Asia with the poorest record of government harassment and persecution of people for peacefully exercising these rights. Amnesty International is concerned that the activities of human rights activists are being criminalized by the state, and that state officials are harassing, arresting and torturing them without fear of repercussions. Michel Chossudovsky: Israel Poised To Bomb Iran

    - At the outset of Bush's second term, Vice President Dick Cheney dropped a bombshell. He hinted, in no uncertain terms, that Iran was "right at the top of the list" of the rogue enemies of America, and that Israel would, so to speak, "be doing the bombing for us", without US military involvement and without us putting pressure on them "to do it". Charles Shaw: Regulated Resistance: Pt. 2

    - Last February United for Peace and Justice, the largest representative coalition within the American "anti-war movement", emerged from their second annual Assembly with a 2005 "action plan" that effectively caged the "anti-war" debate exclusively within the Iraq conflict to achieve partisan ends on behalf of the pro-war Democratic Party and their Neoliberal corporate benefactors.
