Poem: Princes of Palestine - A Grim Fairytale
Princes of Palestine: A Grim Fairytale
By Genevieve Cora Fraser
The
Princes of Palestine
Are not the politicians
Nor the
remaining
Landowners
Businessmen
Hamas
Fatah
Brigades
of resistors
Imans or priests
The Princes of
Palestine
Are the Track-Two
Diplomats
The
scholars
Of the one-state
Two-state
Endless
shuffle
Of negotiations
For a final
Status
Agreement
To lock
in
Borders
Barricades
Against the
multitudes
Farmers, laborers
Teachers,
shopkeepers
Bankers, lawyers
Thieves, the
righteous
And sinners wait
The verdict
The 1st
step
To a true
Negotiated
Settlement
That never
comes
As the monster
That devours
People parades
And plods on
Grinding
Everything
In his
path
Plucking up housewives
And husbands
Children
in their sleep
The monster
Is a frightful
beast
Backed by hordes
Of descendants
From
Attila
The Hun
From far away
Lands they
come
Clutching the Book
Jerusalem Past
Solomon
David
The Kingdom
At long last
Though the
Princes
Convene and confer
The Zionist quest
To
conquer and subdue
To give the Canaanites
Their just
due
The conquest
Of a people
True to their
heritage
Persists breaking
All who resist
In
body
But not in mind
Or spirit
The Princes of
Palestine
Re-assemble the pieces
And in solemn
conclave
By the sweat of their brow
Only
Allah
Knows how
Press
on
