Mental Health Commission Sceptical Of ECT Report

- The Mental Health Commission welcomes the just-released ECT report, but says it doesn’t go far enough to protect the rights of mental health service users or acknowledge the high level of risk of ECT as a treatment. Mental Health Commissioner Mary O’Hagan said that she is sceptical about the review’s interpretation of the level of risk posed by ECT: “There are other interpretations of the international research which give ECT a poorer picture than those expressed in the report. Scoop Report: Two Apples A Day Could Keep Colon-Cancer At Bay

- Marietta Gross reports that scientists have discovered that antioxidants found in apples may block colon cancer cell growth and kill potential cancer cells. A study of the Institute for Cancerous Diseases of the Intestinal Tract in Strasbourg concludes that the consumption of apples could contribute to the prophylaxis of colon cancer. Four Thousand Children Die Daily From Contaminated Water

- Scoop Report: Marietta Gross reports that more than one billion people worldwide source their drinking water from polluted founts, springs or rivers. On the UN's “Day of the Water” (March 22nd) UNICEF announced that every day more than 4000 children die due to diseases which can be traced back to contaminated water. Minnesota School Shooter Wore Bullet-Proof Vest

(Reuters) - A 16-year-old boy who killed nine people and then himself on a Minnesota Indian reservation was wearing a bullet-proof vest when he chased a teacher and fellow students into a classroom and gunned them down, the FBI said on Tuesday. Monday's rampage by Jeff Weise -- the worst U.S. school shooting since the 15-death Columbine massacre in 1999 -- appeared to have been planned, investigators said.
