12:15 Amanda Lennon The Middle East has got even hotter in lately. The Syrian government has been accused of arranging two recent terrorist attacks, most notably the killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. The American’s and Israelis are putting on the pressure and the Lebanese are taking to the streets. This morning the Syrian backed Lebanese government resigned causing jubilation in the streets of Beirut. What does this all mean? Well we have Amanda Lennon from the University of Auckland to talk about it all.

The Council of Trade Unions has started a new campaign this week. It’s called A Fair Share – 5 in 05. The campaign is to demand a five percent wage rise for all its members. They say that despite strong economic growth real wages have remained stagnant. On the phone we have the voice of the campaign, Council of Trade Unions President Ross Wilson, who’ll tell us why he thinks all workers deserve a pay rise this year.
