The issue of judicial
activism isn’t going away anytime soon-that much is clear
following the most recent intemperate commentary from
Justice Sian Elias. Speaking at a recent Auckland
conference, Elias’ outburst concerned judges pay and their
early retirement age. It is an embarrassment for Helen Clark
and Michael Cullen every time judges open their mouth but
does that mean they shouldn’t? Bill Hodge of the Department
of Law at Auckland University is on the Wire this
afternoon.
12.30 Greg Zullo, U.S.A.
It’s D-Day in the
US today as if you didn’t know and we have an American
listener to bFM on the show. Gregg Zullo is an I.T. worker
based in Oregon, one of the all important “swing states”.
He’ll talk to us as the votes come in..
12.45 Jonathan
Milne.
The political editor of The Herald On Sunday is on
the Wire for his regular catch –up. Tariana is crying
stitch-up and Tamihere is still in trouble. But what’s with
the pedometers?
1.00 The Green Desk
Save the planet
with Green Dean
1.15 Arts and that.
Sarah Hopkinson
with a bi-weekly wrap of arts news.
1.30 John Hunt.
If
you live in Auckland you’ll have noticed that the CBD is
experiencing the biggest ever upswing in construction.
You’ll also have noticed that many of the buildings are
god-awful. So is it easier and cheaper to build ugly
buildings? How hard can it be to lift our game when it comes
to urban planning? John Hunt is a Professor of Architecture
here in Auckland and he also chairs the Urban Design Panel.
