Helen Clark, the first New Zealand Prime Minister to visit India in nearly two decades, has met President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh among others on Wednesday Oct 20th.
Clark, who arrived on Sunday, visited India's technology hub Bangalore and financial capital Bombay where she sought to promote collaborations between companies in the two countries on new products and services.
Clark presented mementos to Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan, his father and director Rakesh Roshan and movie star Amisha Patel at a function for their contribution to popularising New Zealand as a destination for Indian movies during her visit to Bombay.
India has the largest film industry in the world, producing 800 movies a year. India's biggest blockbuster movie, called 'Say You Love Me' was filmed in New Zealand and this country was the launching pad for India's hottest new film star.
A small delegation of New Zealand businesspeople from the ICT sector accompanying the PM were Ombudsman Anand Satyanand, Families Commissioner Rajen Prasad, and MP Ashraf Choudhary.
Clark was visiting India on her way home from the Progressive Governance Summit in Hungary. Helen Clark will stop in Singapore for a day on her way back to NZ.
