Scoop Images: Hurricane Ivan Makes Landfall

The eye of Hurricane Ivan is a few hours away from making landfall on the US southern coast. Ground Zero appears to be Mobile, Alabama, near to the Alabama Mississippi border. Already hurricane force winds are battering a wide area of the coast and hurricane generated rainfall is falling from New Orleans (Louisiana) to Tallahassee (Florida).

Already Ivan has claimed one US fatality (to add to an estimated 68 in the Carribean) via a tornado which span off from the eastern flank of the cloud mass. New Orleans meanwhile is expected to avoid the brunt of the Hurricane bringing a great deal of relief to the city.
