The recent terrorist outrages in Russia were notable both for the savagery with which they were carried out, and for the prominent roles played by women in the attacks. Female operatives were used as bombers and hostage takers in three separate incidents. Women have always played a support role in terrorist networks, but in recent years their participation has become more high profile. Chechen separatists have used female bombers since 2002, 30-40% of Tamil Tigers attacks are carried out by women and this year Hamas acknowleged its first female suicide bomber. Female suicide bombers are a specialist study for Amanda Lennon and she’s in studio today.
1.30 Judith Collins, MP.
Prime Minister Helen Clarke says her proposed amendment to the Care of Children Bill is irresponsible and she is putting the health of young women in danger. We’ll ask Judith Collins why she wants a law change.
1.45 The Magazine Review. Imogen Neale is in studio with her picks of the week.
