The darkness rumbles
the concrete crumbles
midst a thousand infant cries.
Blood-black clouds
a familiar shroud
blankets our human sky.
The war machine,
the TV screen
the emptiness inside;
and the heart that would not hate
must surely break with the weight
of love, lying there still,
in the ruins of
a new day
dawning.
(on a)
Pile of stone
scattered bones
tank tracks in the sand.
Survivors collect
the seeds of lives wrecked
another poor nation staggers to stand.
The bomb-factory
in the land of the free:
the lifestyle on which we stand
sinking slow
so far to go.
The light of tommorrow
spreads gently and warm.
Thirst grips the town,
pumps broken down:
silent, the gathering disease.
How many dead
shall be on our head
before we get up off of our knees?
(and say)
Neither the butcher
nor the Bushwacker king
shall define our destiny:
the courage to stand
and hold out our hand...
the cradle of LOVE we're searchin' for...
we're searchin for.
