NY Media Elite Shoots - and Misses - Narco News

November 13, 2002

Scores of journalists and publications have written about Narco News, pro and con, but all of them had, so far, been accurate and fair in their reports.

We have never before felt it necessary to issue any response or corrections on at www.narconews.com to the honest journalistic work of so many Authentic Journalists who have reviewed your source of direct news on the drug war and democracy from Latin América.

For the past week, Columbia University's "journalism review" magazine has been circulating with a three-page profile on Narco News and your publisher. But Columbia Journalism Review has not, so far, been eager to post its own error-laden article on its website. That's not surprising, given the sloppy and demonstrably false claims that CJR made in this article.

Not to worry: In the interests of the public's right to know, factual correction, fair use that is not for profit and strictly for educational purposes, and to stop various lies from traveling around the world before the truth can put its pants on, we've decided to publish it here, in full, uncensored, with additional comments and corrections to the text made after each paragraph:

As we demonstrate, with facts, an abomination of journalism has just been committed by a "journalism review" mag, its rookie freelance reporter, and his unethical editors. We truly wonder - at this point in our history when Narco News has launched our own School of Authentic Journalism - about the motives of the magazine that is published by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, in its embarrassing attack-piece against the Authentic Journalism Renaissance.

Our colleagues at Salón Chingón have urged me to pull the cloak off this error-laden, ethically-challenged, and poorly written ad hominem article. Salón Chingón is correct: Let's rumble with the corrupted journalism of "Columbia Journalism Review." The true facts don't talk... they swear.

It is time for the corrupted "journalism review" mag of the New York Media Elite - which tosses "darts and laurels" from a glass house - to look in the mirror, to review itself.

To help in this educational process, Salón Chingón offers a special "This is not... Darts & Laurels" page that demonstrates CJR's hypocrisy:

CJR - and the small clique of elitist corrupt journalism with which it has allied itself - is clearly frightened, kind readers, by the Authentic Journalism Renaissance. Inadvertently, it has now demonstrated why Narco News already has more readers than CJR.

To our authentic colleagues in journalism, we say that sunlight is the best disinfectant. And so we publish their words, uncensored, with corrections and commentary and without any fear of the consequences, so that all can make an educated judgment based on the facts.
