Firas Al-Atraqchi: Welcome to the War Parade
Welcome to the War Parade
By Firas Al-Atraqchi
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the War Parade.
In October, U.S. Senators and Congressmen allowed themselves to be blitzkrieged by an aggressive war resolution and finally capitulated to the Bush doctrine to wage war against Iraq, an impoverished, debilitated nation.
On November 5th, the Republicans took control of America from the flapping Democrats. The so-called voter referendum was seen as a victory for Bush's foreign policy initiatives.
On November 8th, the United Nations Security Council allowed itself to be bullied into unanimously passing a resolution blindly legitimizing a Bush war on Iraq.
On November 9th, plans outlining likely war scenarios were 'leaked' to the press. One called for the imminent call-up of 100,000 U.S. Army reservists. Another, in the New York Times, called for a 250,000-strong pincer strike to take Basra, and eventually Baghdad.
Analysts festooned the airwaves and broadcast media to inform the dim-witted public that a war had in fact already started.
And you thought this was about disarmament.
Tsk, tsk...
