A new group called 'Mothers Against Genetic Engineering'(Madge) did their first action at the Richmond Rd Woolworths Supermarket Saturday where they went into the supermarket, filled shopping trolleys with food, took them to the checkout and then demanded to see the manager and get some assurance that the food did not contain GE.
When this could not be done so they left the food at the checkout and walked out with their shopping trolley's empty.
Shoppers were given small pink credit card size info cards showing some products to avoid, how to get in touch with Madge and urging people to 'Use their purse power' and stop buying GE food. The group left once police came.
Their website is http://www.madge.net.nz.
