missing
this precious shimmering jewel,
this flashing e.m.s*
this broken stone,
these broken bones,
they could not use your donation
the N,R is running on the Q,W**
this subway car is full,
a young woman and
a black man,
a young girl with glasses,
and a picture of grover on her pink back pack
* e.m.s. stands for 'Emergency Medical Services' an acronym, not known to well in this city before now, but it seems known by all now.. the flashing e.m.s. refers to the sight of e.m.s. vehicles with flashing ambulance lights travelling up and down the island, in eerie silence as viewed from over here in brooklyn on the night of sept 11
** the N,R is one of the subway lines that has been cancelled.. the Q,W is what has replaced it..
