NewsFlash: Bush Wins Florida

Published: Mon 27 Nov 2000 02:08 PM
Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris has certified the final count of ballots cast in Florida, declaring Republican George W. Bush the winner of Florida and the next President of the United States by a margin of 537 votes.
Democratic Vice President candidate Joe Lieberman responded immediately, saying the Gore campaign considered the count to be incomplete and inaccurate, and said that the result will be contested in the Florida Supreme Court.
Mr Lieberman said that the fundamental American principle of one vote for one citizen had been compromised by today's outcome.
