Vice President Al Gore has taken Florida in the US presidential elections, giving him 25 vital electoral votes.
With that key victory in the swinging state of Florida, the race to the White House is wide open again, with a tally of 119 electoral votes counted for Gore and 121 electoral votes for Republican candidate George W. Bush.
Gore has also taken the states of New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Connecticut, Columbia, Delaware, Illinois and Michigan.
Bush earlier struck the first
blows, with the states of Georgia, Virginia and South
Carolina. Oklahoma, Missisipi, Kansas and Carolina have also
been taken by
Bush.
