Fish As the Ultimate Brain Food - Lucent Uses Salmon DNA to Replace Computer
Seafood.com Aug 10- Many of us in the seafood industry know our product promotes intelligence, but now Lucent
technologies has gone a step further. In an interview with CNN, researchers at Lucent’s Bell labs said that they had
used DNA from salmon sperm to create an organic molecule that can respond to sets of instructions.
The salmon DNA is shaped like a pair of tweezers. By adding another strand of DNA as fuel, the researchers can make the
arms shut. Adding a different strand of DNA will make them open. This on-off ability is the basis of all computer chips.
The researchers say that current technology, that etches circuits on silicon, could be replaced by their organic
approach, because the DNA can assemble itself like a crystal. Such an approach could reduce the size of a computer chip
to a pinhead, about 100 to 1000 times smaller than they are
