Scoop has received another anonymous communique from a group calling itself “People Not Profits” in Christchurch who have been busy making a stink.
The following is the text of the anonymous email.
Just after 10 am this morning, Major banks in Christchurch were targeted by May Day protesters. The banks ( ANZ, BNZ Hereford St, Westpac Trust, Cashel Mall) were 'Bombed" with ammonium sulfide (the stuff that smells really bad).
With these 'bombs' was a communique from the activists which read...
"BANKS STINK.
This action has been carried out to bring attention to the disgusting treatment banks hand out to their 'customers'.
Crippling bank fees and branch closures are hurting the elderly and the poor, who are the most vulnerable members of society. It is time that the people of New Zealand stood up and made their voices heard.
PEOPLE NOT PROFITS"
end of communique.
Scoop understands that more banks will be targeted during the day. Meanwhile protestors from other centres say they like the idea so much they will target banks in other cities.
Earlier today the same group indicated they would be targeting traffic signals in the City of Christchurch.
