1999 Ig Nobel Prizes. They will be broadcasting the ceremony, held at Harvard University on September 30th , 7.30pm

The Ig Nobel Awards are a spoof of the Nobel Prizes, intended to celebrate the unusual, honour the imaginative, and
spur people's interest in science. The Prize Ceremony rewards ten individuals whose achievements "cannot or should not
be reproduced." At the Ceremony, 1200 spectators watch the winners receive their Prizes, handed to them by genuinely
bemused genuine Nobel Laureates. Previous winners of the Ig Nobel Prizes include:
MEDICINE: Carl J.Charnetski and Francis X.Brennan, Jr, of Wilkes University, and James F. Harrison of Seattle,
Washington, for their discovery that listening to elevator Muzak stimulates immunoglobulin A (IgA) production, and thus
may help prevent the common cold.
BIOLOGY Anders Barheim and Hogne Sandvik of the University of Bergen, Norway, for their report, Effect of Ale, Garlic
and soured cream on the Appetite of leeches.
PEACE: Jacques Chirac, President of France, for commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of Hiroshima with atomic bomb
tests in the Pacific.
The event is produced by the Annals of Improbable Research (AIR), the international science humor magazine. AIR
chronicles both genuine and concocted research from the world's most remarkable scientists and science writers.
