Change Of Management For Motor Camp
The Lake Waikaremoana Motor Camp in Te Urewera national Park, is about to become privately managed according to Department of Conservation (DOC) Area Office Manager, Glenn Mitchell.
“We are delighted to welcome Larry and Jill Grooby from Wairoa, as the new managers of the motor camp. They were chosen by a joint DOC/Iwi representative selection panel, from a broad range of applicants from throughout the country. Their proven business and staff management skills were the attributes we were looking for,” Mr Mitchell said.
To date, the motor camp has been managed by DOC. However, departmental policy is that management of campgrounds not part of DOC’s core business, and should be contracted to professional managers. Accordingly, the department advertised in July for expressions of interest from people interested in managing the camp.
The Grooby’s will commence their contract on October 14th.
“ The
Waikaremoana Motorcamp is a popular lakeside destination for
visitors to the park, and this year Larry and Jill can
expect to enjoy a particularly busy summer,” Mr Mitchell
said.
