National Support For Whakatane Hospital Stopwork
“Whakatane hospital specialist have national support for their stopwork meeting tomorrow over poor working and employment conditions,” said Dr Peter Roberts, National President of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, today.
“Last week our National Executive voted unanimously to support the efforts of Whakatane specialists to end the long standing inequity and unfairness. Specialists should not be discriminated against because of where they work. The public in eastern Bay of Plenty have every right to expect quality health care just as any other part of the country.”
“Whakatane is a busy efficient hospital with dedicated specialists. But the harsh working environment and poor employment conditions compared with their colleagues in the rest of the country help cause a severe recruitment and retention problem. This destabilises the quality of health services for the public.”
“The National Executive strongly urges the
management of Pacific Health to act swiftly to end this
unfairness so that the people of the eastern Bay of Plenty
can have the stable specialist workforce that they deserve,”
concluded Dr
Roberts.
