Check Election Enrolment On LIne
VOTERS CAN CHECK ENROLMENT STATUS ON-LINE AT ELECTIONS WEBSITE
Eligible electors can now check their
enrolment status on-line at the elections website
www.elections.org.nz.
Electoral Enrolment Centre National Manager Murray Wicks said that electors just need to click on the 'check your enrolment details' button on the home page and then follow some simple steps.
"If a match isn't found, the person is not enrolled for this year's general election. They can then either request an enrolment form from the website or download a copy which they need to complete and post or fax in."
Mr Wicks said the on-line enrolment status service was included in a recent revamp of the elections website.
"We see this as just the beginning of making the enrolment process more accessible. Eventually, electors will be able to enrol and update their details on-line."
Mr Wicks said the site also contains a wide range of information on the electoral system.
"As well as details on enrolment, the site includes election results, an explanation about how the voting system works, electorate maps, and lots more."
Since the start of this year's re-enrolment campaign for the general election, the elections website has received over 22,000 hits. About 55 per cent of traffic has come from people within New Zealand with the majority of overseas visitors from in the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.
"After the home page, the enrolment status page has been the next most popular page on the website."
Mr Wicks said that around 500,000 eligible electors are still not enrolled for this year's election and citizens initiated referendum on the number of MPs in Parliament.
"There is still time to enrol but people need to do this as soon as they can. Enrolment forms are available at any Post Shop, by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or by downloading or requesting one from the elections website."
