Skellerup is proud to partner with I Am Hope for Gumboot Friday on 05 April 2019. Gumboot Friday is the latest project from I Am Hope, a youth-and community-focused support group run by The Key to Life Charitable Trust, founded by Mike King.
For the past three years, Key to Life has campaigned to change the language and attitudes around mental well-being while raising funds for Kiwi kids in need of access to mental-health counselling.
“For generations, New Zealanders have trusted our company and products. As a Kiwi icon, it’s important for Skellerup to support Kiwis enduring tough times,” says David Mair, Skellerup’s CEO.
Skellerup is donating $20,000 to I Am Hope as well as $2 for every pair of Skellerup Red Band gumboots it sells between 25 March and Gumboot Friday on 05 April.
The company has been part of New Zealand for more than a century. Today it’s listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange and employs over 400 New Zealanders nationwide plus a further 400 people overseas. Its Red Bands have been New Zealand’s most trusted gumboot for over 60 years and a part of Kiwi culture.
“Many of us have family, friends or colleagues who have battled or continue to battle mental-health issues. To start the conversation that “it’s OK to not be OK” and to seek help about it is an excellent initiative from I Am Hope and one we are proud to support,” says Mr Mair.
Mike King says it’s awesome to have so many businesses muck in to support Gumboot Friday.
“It’s fantastic to have a Kiwi icon like Skellerup Red Band gumboots support this initiative on behalf of Kiwi kids.”
