Doctors condemn attacks and call for urgent action on gun control
The New Zealand Medical Association condemns the horrific terrorist attacks in Christchurch and strongly supports the Government’s move to immediately tighten gun control in New Zealand.
NZMA Chair, Dr Kate Baddock, said “These events are an anathema to New Zealanders and we must take action to prevent all acts that are driven by hate and the profound effect they have on health, human rights and society.”
“The medical profession is united in our support of the Government’s commitment to strengthen our gun laws and the NZMA will vehemently oppose any campaign to delay that process or dilute the outcome that the nation wants.”
“Right now, our thoughts are with the Muslim community, their family, friends, and whanau.”
“We also pay tribute to all health professionals and other services involved in the immediate aftermath and the ongoing support and healing work that will follow for individuals and the wider community.”
