Goodbye Hagley Outpatients, hello Rangiora Health Hub
It’s been all go on the corner of the hospital grounds bordering Riccarton Ave and Hagley Park over the past two months as the old Hagley Outpatients was deconstructed and trucked away.
Built in 2012, the building which included a two-storey section and single-storey section, was designed in a way that would allow it to be dismantled easily once the new Christchurch Outpatients building was complete.
It was always intended that the single-storey section would be relocated to create an extension to the Rangiora Health Hub. Early on Saturday morning this section destined for Rangiora was cut into five pieces, and transported over the Waimakariri Bridge to its new home at the Health Hub.
The sections will be joined together while on trucks and then lowered as a complete building onto the foundations, which include 196 piles. Once in position, minor alterations will be required to make the buildings fit for purpose.
Site Redevelopment Unit Project Manager Brendon Groufsky says nothing from the building was wasted and nothing went to the landfill, every part of this section of the old building will be reused on the Rangiora site.
“The buildings will house a range of services in Rangiora including Public Health Nurses, Social Workers, Rural Adult Community Services, Adult Community Therapy Services and Community Mental Health,” says Brendon.
