BeingWell Conference presents ‘The How’ of mental wellbeing at work
More than 500 people will attend Southern Cross Health Society’s BeingWell Conference on Thursday 1 November to discuss mental wellbeing at work.
The event, to be held at SkyCity Conference Centre, will feature a compelling line-up headlined by psychologist and author Nigel Latta, who will talk about the challenges our stone age brain faces in the modern world. It will be wrapped up by Forensic Psychiatrist and Performance Consultant Dr Ceri Evans, who will talk about performance under pressure.
Multi medal-winning canoeist and the Health Society's BeingWell Ambassador Lisa Carrington will also be there to share a little of her own journey with wellbeing and why it has become a passion for her.
Southern Cross Chief Executive Nick Astwick will open the conference by explaining why the business takes such a keen interest in workplace wellbeing.
“After nearly 60 years as New Zealand’s largest health insurer, we have broadened our focus to giving Kiwis assurance about their wellbeing. We want to help you be well and stay well, as well as help you get well should you get sick,” he says.
“We know that many businesses want help with workplace wellbeing, particularly mental wellbeing. Our 2017 Wellness in the Workplace Survey revealed that stress levels had risen 22% across all categories since 2015.”
Umbrella Group’s Jacqui Maguire proposes the idea that people can thrive in a time of rapid change by seeing it as an opportunity. She will also join Gaynor Parkin in a workshop to help employment professionals plan robust mental health programmes in their workplaces.
Other workshops include:
Delivering extraordinary performance: focusing attention and managing distractions (Jane Davis from Flourishing Group),
Developing the employee experience for business success (Matt Johns from Humankind)
Intelligent health and safety (Mark Kidd from Safety 365)
The conference has become an annual event in the NZ HR calendar and is attended each year by a growing number of professionals with an interest in workplace wellbeing, including senior HR professionals and wellbeing champions.
Southern Cross Health Society has partnered with some of New Zealand’s leading experts in wellbeing to create its customisable workplace wellbeing programme BeingWell and to present this conference.
